Topic: On-Chip Metasurface-Based Antennas for Next-Generation Electronic Packaging

Brief Biography

Dr. Thennarasan Sabapathy is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering & Technology, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). He holds a Ph.D. in Communication Engineering from UniMAP, an M.Eng.Sc. in Wireless Communication from Multimedia University, and a B.Eng. in Electrical-Telecommunication from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. His research focuses on antennas, metamaterials, and wearable communication systems, with over 100 Scopus-indexed publications. A member of IEEE, IEM, MIET, and MBOT, he has delivered keynotes internationally and led national research grants. Dr. Thennarasan is also recognized for his innovative teaching and development of automated antenna measurement systems

Achievements

Dr. Thennarasan Sabapathy has published over 160 research papers with an H-index of 20 and more than 1,300 citations. He received numerous awards, including Gold and Silver Medals at ITEX, MTE, and WICO, and the Young Scientist Award from the Venus International Foundation. His innovative antenna designs and IoT systems have earned multiple copyrights and research grants from the Ministry of Science and UniMAP. He has delivered keynote talks across Asia, chaired international conferences, and contributed to global collaborations in 5G, metamaterials, and wearable antennas, advancing Malaysia’s standing in wireless communication research and education.

Contribution to Current Job Profile

As an Associate Professor at UniMAP’s Faculty of Electronic Engineering & Technology, Dr. Thennarasan Sabapathy leads research and academic initiatives in antennas, wireless communication, and metamaterials. He supervises postgraduate students, manages national research grants, and integrates advanced pedagogical methods such as project-based learning to enhance student engagement. As former Head of the Antenna Research Group, he established collaborative research networks and spearheaded antenna measurement automation using Python. He actively contributes to curriculum development, conference organization, and industry-linked projects, ensuring alignment between academic outcomes and real-world engineering challenges, while fostering innovation and applied research excellence within UniMAP.

Roles and Responsibilities

Dr. Thennarasan Sabapathy serves as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering & Technology, UniMAP. His responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in communication and antenna engineering, supervising research students, and managing funded research projects. He contributes to curriculum design, academic quality assurance, and innovation in teaching methods. As a researcher, he leads projects in reconfigurable antennas, metamaterials, and wearable technologies. He also organizes conferences, delivers expert talks, and reviews for international journals.
